Drying a floor void in North West London

10th Mar 2025 | |

At Dehumidifier Rental we often deal with pipe leaks within floor voids and can help with a solution.

These leaks can occur over a long period of time before being noticed, often leading to saturation of the ground in void spaces, and spreading to adjoining rooms.

We recently undertook floor void drying after a burst pipe in North West London. Ongoing use of the property was required, and in order to minimise disruption for the residents, we were able to avoid lifting up much of the floor area. A few smaller openings were sufficient, providing access into which dry air can be ducted via flexible ducting pipes.

Using our large condensing dehumidifier, with ducting pipes attached to the dry air outlets, the floor void was pressurised with dry air over a couple of weeks. This removed the excess moisture and returned the floor void to an equilibrium humidity. After removal of the drying equipment, the natural turnover of air via the air vents would maintain an appropriate humidity and avoid deterioration of the wood floor structure.

It should be noted that water in floor voids can soak up solid walls (where damp proof course may be compromised) in which case drying of the walls above the floor level may be required, using separate equipment.
